Where to start?

Ever really wanted to change your life, body, mind... but wondered "Where do I start?" Here's a few suggestions.

1. Start somewhere. Start anywhere.

Seriously. Just do something! Get moving. Go for a walk, ride a bike, take a Zumba class, start a program that interests you. So many people get caught up in what to do, where to go, purchasing gym memberships, etc.... that they never really get started. You make the choice. So get up and get moving!

2. Where are you now? Self reflection. Assessment.

Moving is one thing, but before beginning a fitness routine, it's a good idea to assess where you are currently (and on the couch is ok - you're about to get off of it) Evaluate your current fitness level. Have a check up at the doctor. Your fitness plan should be tailored to you, so you need to find you. There's also a mental aspect to this. What's holding you back? Past? Food? No encouragement? Can't "stick to it"? Why not?

3. Now that you are up and moving and know your current fitness level, Set your goals.

Goals make your dreams reality. They are a road map to your future. So set them! Keep your goals realistic. You didn't get to where you are overnight and the change doesn't happen overnight.

4. Make a plan! Stick to it!

Whew... seems like a lot of work. Here's where it starts paying off. Make a plan. There are a wealth of books, articles, fitness experts, opinions, etc about fitness plans. There are tons of classes at gyms, health clubs, fitness centers. There are running programs (couch to 5ks are great - That's where I started). Just pick a plan and stick with it. Burning out on one plan or it's getting to easy? That's a great time to begin a new class/program and challenge yourself.

5. Make Friends and Maintain.

Don't go at this journey alone! Plus it's 10 times more enjoyable with a friend. Meet people in classes, start groups of like interests (like running groups or cycling groups), engage your family in fitness (be the example for change in your family), go for a lunch walk with your coworkers. There are so many different ways to involve others in your journey, and it could change the life of the person who joins you! Involving others keeps you motivated, accountable, and on track to your fitness goals.

YOU CAN DO IT! This blog is here to encourage you. Train your body, focus your mind, and strengthen your soul.
